OKARA, April 30: Four sanitary workers of the Haveli Lakkha fell unconscious while clearing choked sewerage pipelines.

Tanvir Masih, Akhtar Masih and Siddique Masih were working on underground sewerage lines at Sharif Chowk when they lost consciousness due to toxic gases.

Their colleague, Ishaq Masih, stepped into the manhole to rescue them, but he also fell unconscious. Later, passers-by pulled them out and took them to hospital.

Tension:Tension persists between the Anjuman-i-Mozraeen Punjab (AMP) and the allottees of agriculture land at Kulana Estate.

Talking to newsmen at Okara Press Club here on Wednesday, AMP president Malik Saleem Jakkhar said Anjuman activists, including dozens of men women and children, were performing `security duty’ at 150 acre land. He said the administration must cooperate with the AMP to get control of the Kulana Estate lands.

On the other hand, a police spokesman said troops were available to maintain the writ of the government.

Cane growers: Scores of farmers have been moving from pillar to post for the last four months to get payment from sugar mills of the district.

Cane growers daily visit mills but no responsible mill official is available for a month. The district administration did not so far take any serious step in favour of growers.

Sugar millers reportedly owe Rs1 billion to growers here.
