ISLAMABAD, May 2: Amir Atlas Khan, ranked 32, and Farhan Mehboob, ranked 43, have not yet turned up for the refresher coaching camp, to be held under coach Fahim Gul at the Mushaf Squash Complex, for the British Open Squash Championship scheduled to be played in Liverpool, England, from May 8.

An official of the Pakistan Squash Federation, (PSF) told Dawn on Friday that the federation has sent a letter to both the players some days ago to join the camp including information about the sponsorship of the British Open Championship.

He said all eyes are especially on Farhan Mehboob as he is leaving on May 4 for the qualifying round of the Championship.

The official added that the three players including Mansoor Zaman will be sent to the British Open Championship with some conditions.

He said that the future sponsorship of any international event rests on good performance at the British Open Squash Championship by the three players.

The official said that players would have to join the PSF sponsored camps and they should meet their targets as given in writing to PSF for international events.

He added that for the current championship the PSF’s president has approved the sponsorship of all the three players. Mansoor Zaman and Amir Atlas Khan will be playing in the main round of the championship. Farhan Mehboob will be playing the qualifying round match and he needed more hard practice to give good results at the international level.

Meanwhile, Farhan Mehboob talking to Dawn said that he received PSF’s letter on Friday .

He said that the PSF letter didn’t carry any information about the scheduled refresher camp, however, it carries sponsorship information.

Earlier PSF general council, had decided some months back in its general council meeting that any player who fails to meet his targets would not be sponsored for any international event.
