15 picked up in raids; PML-Q cries foul

By Our Correspondent

NAWABSHAH, May 4: Police raided kutcha areas of the district, including the village of the district president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, seized arms and motorcycles and arrested over 15 people on Sunday.

Jan Mohammed Dahiri, father of PML-Q district president Khan Mohammed Dahiri, alleged that they were being politically victimised. He said that police had raided their village Gulan Jam Dahiri and arrested over 20 of his relatives and servants, including octogenarian Haji Dahiri. He alleged that police also took away their tractors and valuables.

Meanwhile, rallies were taken out in Daulatpur and Shahpur Jehanian against the police action. A clash between PML-Q and PPP was reported from Daulatpur.

DPO Rukhsar Ahmed Khuawar denied that any raid had been carried out on the village of PML-Q president. He told newsmen that an operation was launched against the criminals on the directives of Sindh IGP.

He said that police raided Pai, Lakhat, Bachalpur, Nasiri, Mari Jalbani, Kha, Kundah and Aliabad and arrested over 15 suspicious persons and recovered arms and ammunition, besides 12 motorcycles from their possession.

He said that Kutcha areas were haven for the criminals as they hide there after committing crime in towns. The DPO rejected that the operation was political in nature and said that it was purely against criminals.

Meanwhile, PPP activists of Daulatpur demanded an operation against the criminals and landgrabbers. At a press conference in Nawabshah on Sunday, Ameer Hamzo Unnar, Asghar Dahiri, Jan Mohammed Unnar, Azizullah Bhutto, Dhani Bux, Ali Nawaz Unnar and Allahi Bux Unnar, alleged that 300-350 armed persons belonging to Dahiri tribe and backed by PML-Q district president Khan Mohammed Dahiri attacked Daulatpur town and forcibly closed all the shops. They further alleged that these persons also attacked PPP offices.

They said that Daulatpur town had become an estate of criminals, drug mafia, dacoits and landgrabbers.
