FAISALABAD, May 6: Following reports of gastroenteritis outbreak in some parts of Samundri tehsil, the district government on Tuesday constituted a three-member committee for collection of potable water samples from the area.
Presiding over a meeting at his office, District Coordination Officer Azam Suleman asked the committee, comprising representatives of health, public health engineering and TMA officials, to submit reports of water analysis within 24 hours so that precautionary measures could be taken to avoid any eventuality.
Reports said scores of gastroenteritis patients had been brought to the state-run hospitals in Samundri during the last few days where they were given treatment.
The DCO also asked the health officials to launch an awareness campaign to apprise masses of precautions against the ailment which mostly broke out with changing weather conditions. He said the drive should be carried out through print and electronic media, besides making public announcements in the affected area.
VEHARI: At least two dozen gastro patients were admitted to the DHQ hospital here on Tuesday.
Reports said the number of gastro patients was increasing and many of them were also being admitted to various private hospitals in the district.
The patients complained they were being denied medicines by the hospital staff and they had to purchase necessary drugs from the local market.
However, Medical Superintendent Dr Shahid Saleem said the hospital doctors and paramedical staff were providing all required medicines and facilities to the patients.
Strangely, two senior doctors Dr Tariq Mehmood Tahir (physician) and Dr Khalid Mehmood (pediatrician) denied presence of any gastro patients in the hospital. They said a few dehydration patients, including women and children, were admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, declaring it a routine matter related to weather change.
TOBA TEK SINGH: According to our correspondent, dozens of gastro patients had been admitted to local hospitals.
General Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Altaf Qasim said though there were a number of cases reported with abdominal diseases but none of them was of gastro.
Dr Rauf, a private practitioner, also confirmed dozens of gastro patients, mostly children, being brought to his clinic for treatment.
