MINGORA, May 8: A Frontier Corps havaldar was killed and a sepoy injured when militants attacked the Kabal police station on Thursday.

The area was under curfew when the attack took place. According to ISPR, the FC personnel were at an FC checkpoint near the police station.

SHO Sanober Khan said some people fired two rockets at the police station and then opened fire with Kalashnikovs and other light weapons at about 2:30am.

An exchange of fire between the two sides continued for one and a half hours. Havaldar Mohammad Buzarg of Chitral was killed and soldier Mohsin Ali was injured.

There is an army base camp at the Kabal golf ground near the police station.

On Wednesday night, a government girls’ high school was set ablaze in Matta. All the eight rooms of the school were damaged.

Matta police defused two bombs planted in front of the Sherpalam Boys’ High School.

In Shahdara area of Mingora bazaar, students of a girls’ primary school panicked when a bearded man entered it.

The man turned out to be mentally deranged. Several girls were injured while hurrying to get out of the school. Shopkeepers in the area closed their shops.
