QUETTA, May 8: A shutter-down strike was observed here on Thursday on a call given by the Anjuman-i-Tajran Balochistan and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party in protest against the killing of two traders.All shopping centres remained closed.

The strike did not affect government offices and educational institutions.

Traffic on city roads also plied as routine.

Representatives of traders demanded immediate arrest of the killers of the traders.

They said the government must protect people’s life and property.

Jamait Ulema-i-Islam (Ideological) activists took out a procession accusing law-enforcement agencies of having failed to curb crimes.

Condemning the killing of traders, Maulvi Abdul Qadir Luni blamed police inaction for increasing incidents of kidnapping and robbery.

He also accused police of protecting robbers.
