Boucher to meet Asif, Nawaz?

Published May 11, 2008

LONDON: US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher is likely to meet Nawaz Sharif and, perhaps, Asif Ali Zardari in London.

Mr Boucher is scheduled to stop over in London on Saturday night on his way back home from Dhaka.

However, no one, either from the PML-N camp or the PPP quarters was prepared to confirm or deny the report.

A spokesman for the State Department in Washington was also unaware of Mr Boucher’s London schedule.

The unconfirmed reports of Mr Boucher’s expected meeting with Mr Sharif and Mr Zardari appear plausible in the backdrop of the apparent US interest in the on going judicial crisis in Pakistan and its reported opposition to the restoration of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

And perhaps Mr Sharif had delayed his departure to Pakistan especially for the purpose.
