LARKANA, May 11: Dr Safdar Sarki, general secretary of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), on Sunday made an impassioned appeal to different factions of the party to shun differences and said the first and foremost task he had set himself after his release was to unite differing groups.
Talking to Dawn here en route to Sann, the birthplace and the last resting of G.M. Syed, founder of Jeay Sindh movement, Dr Sarki said that he would settle the differences that had developed in the party after his disappearance.
People around the world were quite awakened about their rights but the Sindhis had yet to organise themselves on scientific lines, he regretted.
Dr Sarki thanked judiciary for its independent role and said that media and judiciary played a powerful role to make his release possible. “Having been a prisoner myself I can well understand the meaning of freedom,” he said and added that he stood by free and independent judiciary and press.
To another question he appreciated Pakistan People’s Party’s role for his and Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s release and called for the release of all the political prisoners of Sindh and Balochistan.
He expected that the PPP would continue Benazir Bhutto’s polices. Despite difference of opinion Benazir Bhutto raise voice for his (Dr Sarki’s) release, he said and added that he would soon go to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto to offer fathea on her grave.
About PPP’s sharing government with Mutathida Qaumi Movement (MQM), he said that despite reservations “we do not want to comment on it”.
Dr Sarki made brief stops at Ratodero, Qambar and Wagan en route to Sann where the activists of JSQM and JSSF accorded him warm welcome.
Our Dadu correspondent adds: Dr Sarki arrived in Dadu at around 10:00pm and addressed a meeting of activists and supporters who had come to accord him welcome. He then went to a friend’s residence where he met different delegations and party activists. He then left for Sann at 11:30 pm.
