KARACHI, May 12: The All Pakistan Transporters Conference, held at the Hawkesbay Truck stand on Monday, announced a countrywide wheel-jam on May 17 against a hike in oil prices, increasing incidents of robberies on highways and hijacking of goods vehicles.

The conference was organised by the Karachi Goods Carriers Association and presided over by its president Mohammad Khalid Khan. The participating transporters threatened to block highways during the strike.

A 27-member action committee was constituted to take up the issues with the government. It was also decided that a charter of demands would be prepared and released to the press at a news conference in Karachi on May 15.—PPI
