KARACHI, May 12: Sindh Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ayaz Soomro has said a bill will soon be tabled in the provincial assembly against chopping of trees.

He said there must be a law to curb tree felling in order to save plantation and keep the environment pollution-free.

The government would suggest three-month imprisonment and a fine of Rs2,500 for offenders, he added.

The minister was addressing a ceremony organised by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society

in connection with

the World Red Cross Day on Monday.

Mr Soomro said the government was ready to implement every proposal for preservation of natural resources and environment.

Sindh relief commissioner Syed Anwar Haider, Z. A. Nizami, Prof Jamil Hasan Kazmi, Zubair Siddiqui, Sardar Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shamim Kazmi, Mehfoozun Nabi Khan and Kanwar Waseem also spoke.—PPI
