SHEIKHUPURA: Lawyers’ fraternity throughout the province observed a black day on Monday against the Karachi carnage on May 12 last year.

Lawyers in Sheikhupura, Nankana, Ferozewala and Sangla Hill took out rallies against the killings

A meeting was held by the Sheikhupura Bar Association under the chairmanship of bar president Nasrullah Wattoo. The bar president said that PPP was not sincere in restoration of the deposed judges.

He said that deposed judges could be restored through a simple executive order, but PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was only complicating the matter.

He said the lawyers’ community would decide the future course of action in its meeting on May 17 in Lahore.

SAHIWAL: The local bar blamed political parties for their failure in restoring the judiciary.

Lawyers said they would continue their struggle and would not allow anyone to hijack their movement. They also announced blocking the GT Road on Tuesday to give message that lawyers were on the move.

Bar president Tahir Shabbir called an emergency meeting of lawyers to chalk out a future strategy against what they called the betrayal of political parties. DBA members and senior lawyers attended the meeting.

Coming hard on PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari, speakers blamed President Musharraf for creating judicial crisis in the country.

Lawyers also passed a unanimous resolution asking Aitzaz Ahsan to withdraw his nomination papers.

OKARA: The Jamaat-i-Islami took out a protest rally against the killing of more than 50 people in Karachi on May 12 last year.

Led by district amir Shaikh Farooq, dozens of JI activists participated in the rally which started from Fowwara Chowk and ended at Gole Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, MMA district president Cap Dr Liaquat Ali Kausar (retired), Rafi Sukhera, Hafiz Abdul Waheed Rabbani and others demanded of the government to declare the MQM a terrorist party.

Lawyers of the District Bar Association also observed a black day and did not appear in courts.

Bar president Chaudhry Sagheer Ahmad Hari said that they would follow the directions of their central leadership.

VEHARI: Lawyers staged a protest procession on the premises of district courts besides boycotting judicial proceedings.

Led by DBA president Sardar Ghulam Abbas Baloch and secretary-general Afzal Shabab, the participants demanded restoration of judiciary without any further delay. They also raised slogans against President Musharraf and Asif Zardari.

The Mailsi and Burewala bar associations also took out protest rallies. Lawyers said they would continue their protest till the restoration of judiciary.

BAHAWALPUR: The lawyers’ community observed a black day against the Karachi violence and the non-implementation of the Bhurbun declaration regarding the restoration of deposed judges by May 12.

Members of the district and high court bar associations did not appear in courts and the judges adjourned their cases.

The bar also held a meeting which was addressed by its president Yahyah Khan and others.

Later, the bar members brought out a rally from the barroom to Farid Gate.

TOBA TEK SINGH: District bar association members and APDM workers staged a protest procession.

The rally started from the district barroom and reached the Press Club after marching through various roads.

The speakers said that the upcoming country-wide movement would result in the ouster of the present rulers if the deposed judges were not restored.

MULTAN: The legal fraternity marked May 12 as a black day to condemn the Karachi massacre.

Led by DBA president Najaf Ali Chowan, lawyers brought a rally from the district bar to Chowk Kutchery against the MQM and also boycotted court proceedings.

Workers of Muttahida Muslim Movement, Muttahida Shehri Mahaaz, Pattan Development Organization, PML-N and Jamaat-i-Islami also participated in the rally.

Shouting slogans against the MQM, President Musharraf and the PPP, protesting lawyers burnt the effigies of the president and Altaf Hussain.

Mr Chowan said the PPP and the MQM had become a ‘B’ team of the Musharraf regime.

KASUR: Lawyers of Kasur, Chunian and Pattoki boycotted the court proceedings, took out rallies and blocked the road to get their protest registered against the failure of the coalition government to reinstate the deposed judges.

Over 100 lawyers held a meeting in the Kasur Bar auditorium under the chairmanship of its president Sardar Qurban Dogar. Speaking on the occasion, the bar president, lawyers Sardar Fakhar Babu Asghar Ali and others condemned Asif Zardari for not keeping his words.

They vowed to continue their struggle till the restoration of the deposed judges.

Later, lawyers brought out the rally and blocked the road at Kutchery Chowk and Petrol Pump Chowk. They also chanted slogans against President Musharraf, Asif Zardari and Altaf Hussain.
