SAHIWAL, May 13: Lawyers in some parts of Punjab decided to go an extra mile by coming out to protest the judicial deadlock on Tuesday, though their leaders will decide the future course of action on May 17.

In Sahiwal, scores of lawyers blocked traffic on GT Road at View Hotel Chowk for one hour by burning tyres and effigies of President Musharraf and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari.

They chanted slogans against what they called Musharraf-Zardari alliance and held aloft black flags, banners and placards depicting anti-government sentiments.

Demanding the judiciary’s “freedom from establishment” and restoration of the deposed judges, the Sahiwal bar association members said they would not appear for any case and boycott the lowers courts till May 17 when the decision-makers would chalk out the strategy.

OKARA: A similar decision was taken by the Okara District Bar Association at a general-house meeting.

Hundreds of lawyers, who turned up at the meeting under the chair of DBA President Sagheer Ahmad Harni at the District Courts Complex, gave nod to a resolution announcing complete strike till May 17.

The resolution pledged action against the lawyers would go against the decision. “The names of the black sheep will be put on the notice board,” it was unanimously decided.
