HYDERABAD, May 17: The district nazim of Hyderabad has directed Wasa to complete all preparations and keep the machinery and generators ready to meet any rain eventuality during the monsoon season. The work of de-silting of Nullahs should also be completed without delay, he said.
Kanwar Naveed Jamil issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting of all the district officials at his office here on Friday.
The meeting reviewed necessary arrangements and precautionary measures that needed to be taken before the rainy season.
He said the extension programme of water supply and sewerage system in all the four talukas of the district should also be completed before the rainy season to save the people from any hardship.
He said all the faults in the pumping machinery and generators should be removed immediately and all the necessary equipment should also be kept ready to meet any emergency.
A number of committees have been formed which will visit all the areas to inspect arrangements.
He said if any officer was facing any financial or administrative difficulties, he should immediately get in touch with him.
Kanwar Naveed Jamil informed the meeting that although the government had reduced funding in different areas, nevertheless, the district government will determine its own priorities keeping in view its resources.
He expressed satisfaction that with the completion of water supply and sewerage system and construction and expansion of pumping stations, the district administration will be able to meet any emergent situation.
DCO of Hyderabad Syed Barkat Rizvi, nazims of Latifabad and city talukas, M.D Wasa, all the officials concerned attended the meeting.
HUNGER STRIKE: The activists of Labour Party Pakistan staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Saturday against price hike, rampant unemployment and loadshedding.
Speaking on the occasion they reminded the newly elected government of its promises and said that the democratic government had failed to announce any solid policy to end price hike, unemployment and loadshedding.
They said that the price of oil had been increased and the unemployed youths were compelled to commit suicides.
The present government had even failed to honour its promise about the reinstatement of the deposed judges of the superior judiciary, the Labour Party leaders said.
They advised the government to concentrate on the resolution of basic problems of the masses instead of making hollow promises.
DEMO: The students of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro and Muslim College Hyderabad staged separate protest demonstrations outside the press club here on Saturday to protest against the murder of Sindh University student, Abdul Nabi Brohi.
They raised slogans for the arrest of the murderers.
