LAHORE, May 18: Seventeen teams will vie for top honours in the inaugural National women football club championship to commence in four cities, simultaneously, from Tuesday.

The participating outfits have been divided into four groups -- three having four teams and one comprising five.

The top teams in each group will march into the four-team final phase as well as earn berths in the fourth edition of the national championship to be held in August this year.

Group ‘A’ comprises Lahore Fighters, Fatima Club, Sports Sciences Club and the WP Club who will be playing their matches at the Wapda Sports Complex, GCU College Ground, Township Govt. Physical Education College and Women’s Department of the Punjab University (Old Campus).

Sialkot’s Bhagwal Awan Ground and the SOS Village will host Group ‘B’ comprising Chaman clubs of Bhagwal and Suddhar and Young Rising Star clubs of Layyah and Vehari.

Islamabad’s Jinnah Stadium and OPF Ground H/8 are the designated playing turfs for Group ‘C’ where Margala Club, Rawalpindi’s Young Rising Star, Peshawar’s FATA Club and Balochistan United will be seen in action.

The 10 matches in Group ‘D’ will be played at four grounds of Karachi.

Diya Club, who have the honour of playing in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, is also among participants along with Karachi Kickers and three new comers -- Colony Sports Club, Karachi Dolphins and Sindh.
