LAHORE, May 20: A tricky card of six events awaits race-goers at the midweek day/night Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday evening.

All events are to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres. In all, 82 acceptors will be vying for the contests, barring last-minute withdrawals.

There are 11 acceptors for the sixth and feature event, the Kharian Plate, class VI, division II handicap race. Of them four look on chance, namely Aaja Bulbul, Stride To Moment, So Romantic and Mutajir. On recent form they should fight for the top honours.

The four-year-old bay filly Aaja Bulbul is a good sprinter but on her last outing she failed to come out of the gates to take a level start. That was very disappointing for the trainer and creates doubts about her future behaviour in the starting box. After her So Romantic and Moment To Moment are the form horses. Mutajir finished third in the last outing but did not impress much.

In the supporting and fifth race, the Kharian Plate class VI division III, a small and unimpressive field of seven odd runners is the field. On recent performance and form only three come in to reckoning. They are: Regulation Sona and Black King. Whosoever gets better support from the saddle will have the advantage. The other four have no recent form.

Chocolate Boy, Shahbaz Love and Malang Aya look good in the 10 runners field for the fourth race, barring last-minute withdrawals.

Chocolate Boy and Shahbaz Love are speedy runners but, if the race is run on slow pace, Malang Aya has a chance of upsetting the odds.

Mera Chan, Best Owner and Shandar are the pick of the 18-strong field for the third race. They should fight a tough battle for occupying the winner’s box.

Khan Baba looks a good proposition in the second race. He finished fourth in his last outing a fortnight ago, which came as a great shock for those who had fancied him. He is now placed in a lower division on top handicap, has the speed to annul handicap, provided fancied by his stable.

The opener is a race for the animals downgraded to lowest rung of the class seven, division third. Normally, horses demoted to this division are not considered worth betting for win for many a reasons. Of the 18 listed, the prominent ones are: Bagh-o-Bahar, Bioactive, Sohna Murad, Waqas Prince and Taqdeer-e-Bhakkar

Speed and handicap give edge to Bagh-o-Bahar and Sohna Murad.

The Super Jack Pot, unsolved during the two last race days will be a side attraction for the punters and the amount brought forward will be added in the pool on Wednesday.

Meanwhile the Lahore Race Club (LRC) Secretary Shahzad Akhtar told Dawn that the LRC steward had turned down the appeal of Mian Khan against “harsh handicapping” of his colt Apex on Sunday. His rider was also served a warning for unsatisfactory riding.

The first race will start at 5:00pm.
