JOHANNESBURG, May 30: To enhance slow bowling department, Cricket South Africa (CSA) is sending its talented spinners to India for a short training camp there.

Thandi Tshabalala is one out of the seven promising spinners, picked by the CSA, to be sent to India for training.

National selectors Shafiek Abrahams and Dolphins coach Yashin Ebrahim will accompany the players who will be participating in the 12-day camp from Tuesday.

Jonathan Vandiar, a Dolphins leg-spinner, who took four wickets in six World Cup Under-19 games, will also be making the trip to Mohali where the players will attend a training camp under former Indian leg-spinner Narendra Hirwani and other coaches.

The other South African spinners who are going to India include Corbyn Dolley, Keshav Maharaj, Daryn Smit, Aubrey Swanepoel and Roelof van der Merwe.

The trip is being funded by Shyam Bhatia, a Dubai-based Indian businessman.

“Your [South Africa’s] strength is in fast bowlers, ours [India’s] because of the conditions is in the spinning department,” Bhatia said.

Vince van der Bijl, CSA General Manager, said the project would help them complete their programme for spinners. “This venture helps us complete the spinners’ programme we have set up with the national coordinator Shafiek Abrahams,” said van der Bijl. “It is ideal — we will not only learn from the experienced masters of spin but our young bowlers will be given the opportunity of playing in the intense heat and on the very different wickets.—Agencies
