Redeployment of FC under study in Balochistan

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, June 1: The Balochistan government is considering to redeploy the Frontier Corps in view of the deteriorating law and order in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.

A high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani on Saturday evening reviewed the situation in the province against the backdrop of recent incidents of violence which left several people dead in Quetta.

Provincial Home Minister Mir Zafarullah Zehri, Chief Secretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa, Inspector General of Police Saud Gohar, Quetta CCPO Mohammad Akbar and DIG Operations Rehmatullah Niazi attended the meeting.

“The meeting unanimously decided to seek the help of Frontier Corps to maintain law and order,” sources told Dawn, adding that since the withdrawal of the FC incidents of firing had increased in Quetta. After the high-level meeting, the Inspector-General of the Frontier Corps, Maj-Gen Saleem Nawaz, met the chief minister and discussed the law and order situation and the decision to redeploy the Frontier Corps to help police.
