KARACHI, June 7: Eight-year-old chestnut Desert Hawk is poised to make it two on a trot when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
On his facile win last weekend, he starts as our day’s best and should land the feature event, the six-furlong last race on the card.
Those who come in reckoning to pose him serious challenge in a field of nine horses are mare Stormy Kiss and colt Spirit Of Arab.
Seven-year-old bay Manan Prince seems certain to halt the winning streak of six-year-old bay Bharosa by claiming the six furlongs supporting event.
Manan Prince has shown consistent form and is a regular finisher on the board in the last couple of runs sans victory. Trained by owner Mian Asif, he has an outright chance to register his maiden win of the season.
Manan Prince and Bharosa are likely to be chased by mare Closing Argument.
If tried by connection, three-year-old bay filly Black Velvet should make amends by overcoming the field in the division II class VII race to be run over five furlongs.
After getting a good run on June 1 where she settled for second behind Bam Bamm, she is fancied to atone for the loss.
She is likely to be chased by colts Sayeen Jee and The Reyan.
Marista, a 12-year-old bay mare, is our fancy to pick up the spoils in the opener where nine runners, including two unknown pedigrees, are to vie for the honours.
He should be followed by chestnut Faith and bay Prince Shahzad for the places. Colt Haibat Nak can put up a good show.
Jaguar should make amends by claiming the next race while filly Dilruba should present owner Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara with a winner in the third.
A card of six races, first four to be run over five furlongs and the last two to six, have been drawn for the day. The first race starts at 2.00pm.
Meanwhile, the racing committee should look into mysterious activities which have been noticed at the starting gate in order to keep their faith in public.
