LAHORE, June 18: Governor Salmaan Taseer said on Wednesday that turning Punjab into a bastion of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was his top priority.

Speaking to a gathering in Osman Kot, Bahawalnagar district, Taseer said he was not an impartial governor but a servant of PPP. He said PPP was the party of the poor, adding that the provision of economic relief to the poor was one of the salient features of his party’s manifesto. He said PPP did not believe in hollow slogans. He said he would ask Punjab and federal governments to release funds for the development of Bahawalnagar and its suburbs. On this occasion, he also announced various projects for the area, according to a press release.
