Published July 3, 2008

BAHAWALPUR, July 2 : An amount of Rs400 million allocated for the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) and Quaid-i-Azam Medical College (QMC), Bahawalpur during the previous financial year was lapsed.

Dawn learnt that the funds had been set aside for the purchase of machinery for different wards of the BVH but could not be utilised during the year ending on June 30.

It came to know that the decision to make purchases could not be taken owing to differences between former principal of QMC and the members of Board of Management (BoM). After the retirement of the former principal, the BoM members also resigned in May without mentioning any reason for their en bloc resignations. When contacted QMC principal Prof. Dr. Mazharul Attique confirmed that funds had lapsed. He said the administration was now taking measures to purchase the required machinery and other necessary equipment for the hospital.

The Punjab government did not so far nominate new members of the BoM of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital.
