Aqeel, Natasha bag tennis titles

KARACHI, July 10: Top seed Aqeel Khan downed Nomi Qamar in straight sets in the final to retain his men’s singles Sub-e-Nau National Hard Court Tennis Championship title at the Modern Club on Thursday.

Aqeel demonstrated powerful groundstrokes, superb serve and all-round court craft to overwhelm Nomi Qamar 6-2, 6-3.

The women’s singles final saw the emergence of a new champion when Natasha Afridi stunned top seed Sara Mansoor 2-0.

Natasha completed the doubles crown after having already won the doubles title a day before, outclassing Sara 6-2, 6-4.

Heera Ashiq outplayed Faizan Khurram in the Under-17 final. Faizan, who had qualified for the final after beating the top seed Zohair Raza, was unable to match a wonderful show from Heera.

Aqeel was rewarded with Rs40,000 and a trophy while runner-up Nomi got Rs20,000. Natasha was presented a trophy and cash prize of Rs20,000 and Sara collected Rs12,000.—APP
