DHAKA, July 18: Indian Border Security Force gunned down two members of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) on late Thursday night 1.5 km inside Bangladesh territory.

The killing took place while the BDR men were patrolling along the riverine border at Raghunathpur in Chapainawabganj.

Foreign affairs adviser of the caretaker administration Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury condemned the killing and said such incidents were ‘totally unacceptable.’

The killing took place at a time when annual consultations of foreign secretaries of Bangladesh and India were going on in Delhi.

At the meeting the two leaders expressed their satisfaction over the ‘existing functional mechanism’ for dealing terrorism and illegal cross-border activities.

The Indian border guards have killed 32 unarmed Bangladeshi in the first six months of the year. They also injured and abducted 20 and 22 people respectively, says the Dhaka-based human rights coalition Odhikar.
