LAHORE, July 18: Defending champions Army stole the show by winning five gold medals out of a total six on the first of the three-day National Swimming Championship at the Wapda Sports Complex here on Friday.
Punjab's budding swimmer Shahbaz Khan clinched the lone remaining gold of the day, as the hosts Wapda, Sindh and Navy failed to clinch top position in any event.
After Shahbaz clocked two minutes 6.25 seconds to grab gold medal for Punjab, Army gave no room to any other to rule the day.
Mohammad Mansoor brought for Army their first gold medal in 400metre individual medley, clocking five minutes 7.38seconds, followed by teammate Nisar Ahmad and Ghulam Mohammad of Sindh.
Sanaullah provided Army the lead winning the second gold medal in 200m back-stroke when he covered the distance in two minutes 37.95seconds. Abdul Aziz (Wapda) and Zohray Khan (Army) remained second and third respectively.
Nasir Ahmad was the winner of the third gold medal, winning 200m butterfly. Zohray (Army) Ali Gul (Navy) remained third.
Earlier, two matches in the 8th water polo championship were also decided. Army defeated Higher Education Commission 11-0 score while Punjab trounced Balochistan 15-0.
