KASUR, July 19: Today’s lifestyle and excessive smoking are responsible for most heart problems, a cardiologist said here on Saturday.

Inaugurating a coronary care unit at Bhatti International Trust Hospital on Raiwind Road, Dr Shaharyar said most of Kasur people were living in congested areas with dark lanes and narrow bazaars and thus going out rarely for long walks in fresh air to digest the heavy food they eat.

He said the absence of any cardiac centre in the district forced people to go to Lahore for treatment.

He said that 90 per cent of heart patients did not need to be taken to Lahore because they could be treated in Kasur, but doctors never bothered to guide them.

He said the coronary unit at Bhatti Hospital was equipped with modern equipment.
