GUJAR KHAN, July 25: The Mandra police have arrested four members of a gang in Tharjial village on the charge of extracting money from job seekers and other people.

City Police Officer Rawalpindi Rao Mohammad Iqbal told Dawn that the gang had been cheating people in Balochistan, Sindh, NWFP, Punjab and AJK for the last many years and had extracted money amounting to millions of rupees from them. He said retired army personnel and job seekers in oil and gas companies as well as those planning to go abroad for work had been the target of the criminals. The official said the gang had also thrashed FIA and NAB teams when they attempted to arrest them. Later, he said, special instructions were issued to SDPO Gujar Khan Syed Akbar Abbas Shah to apprehend the outlaws.

The police party headed by Inspector Sajid Gondal raided the den of the criminals two days back and arrested four members of the gang including its ring leader Subedar Nazar after an exchange of fire. He said another gang of dacoits active in Mandra and Gujar Khan had also been arrested.
