GUJRANWALA, Aug 17: The Kamoki police solved the murder case of father of an additional sessions judge and arrested three proclaimed offenders (POs) and seized unlicenced arms from their possession.

This was stated by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, a deputy inspector general of police (DIG), while talking to reporters here on Sunday.

He said that Habibullah Saroya, the father of additional sessions judge Azam Saroya, was on his way to offer Fajar prayers at a local mosque in Kamoki on June 29 when unidentified men kidnapped him and took him to Muridke.

Later, the kidnappers demanded Rs5 million ransom from the family for the elderly man’s release.

The family paid Rs1.3 million to the kidnappers but they did not release the man and instead killed him and later threw his body in Upper Chenab Canal which could not be retrieved.

RPO Cheema said that a raiding party of police collected information about the suspects and arrested them from Khiali area in Gujranwala and Noshehra Virkan locality.

The police also recovered Rs500,000 in cash, two AK-47 rifles and three pistols from the POs later identified as Hafiz Tariq, Alamgir and Tariq Ali.

Tariq admitted that he had kidnapped Habibullah and later killed him after receiving the ransom money with the help of his accomplices.

DIG Cheema said that Tariq had also kidnapped a medical store owner a few months ago and received Rs3 million ransom from his family.

The DIG announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the members of the raiding party.

FIA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was making arrangements to bring back two other bodies from Turkey after their heirs identified them here on Sunday.

FIA Additional Director Hussain Asghar said that the agency had got the photographs of youths who were killed in Turkey published upon which two more youths were identified as Shahbaz of Mandi Bahauddin and Amir Khurram of Narowal.

Asghar hoped that the bodies would be brought back to Pakistan from Turkey within next two days.

He pointed out that about 600 youths were already detained in Istanbul and they would also be brought back shortly.

MISHAP: A police constable was killed while 18 others were injured when a police van overturned on Sheikhupura Road on Sunday.

The policemen were going to Farooqabad for training when their vehicle turned turtle.

Constable Bashir died on the spot while 18 others suffered injuries and were hospitalised.
