Lawyers movement to continue

FAISALABAD, Aug 25: District Bar Association (DBA) president Nasir Ali has said that lawyers’ movement to establish rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution had frightened PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and that’s why he was reluctant to reinstate deposed judges.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said the legal fraternity had been struggling for the restoration of deposed judges and they would not stop their efforts until all of them were restored to their pre-Nov 3 position.

He said the Faisalabad DBA like all bar associations of the country would hoist black flag on its premises and its members would stage a sit-in on Thursday. However, he said, the venue for the two-hour sit-in had not been decided so far.

He appealed to traders, politicians, activists of civil society organisations and people from different walks of life to join hands with lawyers for the independence of the judiciary.

The DBA president paid tribute to deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and PTI chairman Imran Khan for their struggle for the establishment of rule of law and democracy in the country.

He criticised Senator Latif Khan Khosa for accepting the slot of attorney general of Pakistan. He said Khosa had been with the legal fraternity during the early days of lawyers’ movement against former president Pervez Musharraf.

The DBA president said Musharraf had to face trial under Article 6 of the Constitution after the reinstatement of deposed judges.
