KARACHI, Aug 30: A fashion designer and a constable were killed on Saturday in separate acts of violence in the city, police and witnesses said.
Clifton police said the trussed-up body of 37-year-old designer Shaikh Amir Hasan was found in his DHA Phase-5 flat where he was living alone.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where sources said the victim had been shot three bullets, two in the face and one to the head, from point-blank range as the bullets pierced through his skull.
The SHO of Clifton, Ishaq Lashari, told Dawn that the victim’s driver reached Amir Hasan’s flat in the morning and found him shot dead.
He said the driver informed one of the victim’s friends, Faisal, about the incident. “Faisal reported the matter to police control at around 12 noon,” he added.
The victim, who hailed from Lahore, was also associated with a private TV channel.
The police registered a case against unknown culprits on the complaint of the victim’s younger brother, Jawad Hussain.
They said that two domestic servants of the victim were taken into custody for questioning.
The police said that some friends of the victim had visited him the previous night. They said the investigation was under way and efforts were being made to track down those who visited the victim at his flat the previous night.
Cop shot dead
A 35-year-old constable, father of six, was shot dead in Baldia Town.
The Saeedabad police said Sikander Ali Sehto, son of Ismail Ali, was posted as a guard with the SP of Site, and was going to his house in Sector 8 on his bike when unknown culprits shot him dead.
The SHO, Inayat Ullah Marwat, said the victim, who hailed from Tando Jam, had died instantly in the attack and later his body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Hospital sources said the victim had received three bullets, two in his abdomen and one in his right arm.
The SHO said the culprits also took away the victim’s pistol.
He said the victim was the father of six children and his wife was expecting their seventh child shortly.
Meanwhile, Site Town police chief SP Ashfaq Alam said the constable took a shortcut to his house, when he encountered the culprits at a desolate place near the KMC graveyard. “The constable stopped his bike to take a position when he saw a gang of criminals, but the culprits opened fire killing him instantly,” he added.
Bank looted
A gang of four bandits looted over Rs3.56 million from a bank in Block N of North Nazimabad.
Mohammed Rashid, manager of the looted branch of the MCB, reported to the Taimuria police that the bandits entered the bank at around 9.15am and swiftly disarmed the two bank guards.
He stated that the intruders held the bank staff hostage at gunpoint, scooped up Rs3,561,102, and decamped with the booty. They also took away the recording of the closed-circuit television.
The manager further reported that the bandits also took away the repeater and the TT pistol they had snatched from the guards – Mohammed Shaukat and Hidayat Ullah.
The police have registered a case (532/08) against unknown bank robbers on the complaint of the bank manager.
