ISLAMABAD, Sept 9: An Etihad Airways flight with 142 passengers and 14 crew made an emergency landing at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Tuesday after pilots reported a nose gear problem.

The Islamabad-bound flight EY-235 had originated from Abu Dhabi.

The plane landed safely at around 8:28pm and all passengers and crew remained safe.

A press release issued by the airline said the problem cropped up when one of the warning indicator lights in the cockpit malfunctioned. The engineers reset the system and the aircraft was declared safe, it added.

The Airbus A330 aircraft apparently developed the problem with the nose gear shortly before the planned landing. The nose gear initially failed to deploy apparently because of some problem with the bay doors, according to sources at the airport.

Airport Manager Ayaz Jadoon said emergency services were put on standby. Mr Jadoon, however, said air traffic was not affected because of the incident.
