HYDERABAD, Sept 15: Vice President Sindh Abadgar Board, Dr Zulfiqar Yousfani has expressed concern over import of onion from India and demanded its immediate ban.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he said that the onion crop in lower Sindh was ready to be harvested while in some areas it had already been. Onion growers will suffer huge losses if its import was not stopped forthwith, Dr Yousfani said.

He said last year also, onion growers suffered huge losses as they failed to get fair price for their crop cultivated on thousands of acres. He feared that if onion import from India was not stopped, growers will suffer the same fate.

He claimed that bumper crop was expected in Sindh this year and there will be surplus for export. He regretted that whenever any crop was ready, the government allowed import at the cost of its own growers.
