ISLAMABAD, Sept 16: Jamaat-i-Islami’s chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that there is no difference between the present set-up and the regime of Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

Talking to party workers and journalists on Tuesday, he said the only disagreement between the government and the US was on who should kill Pakistani people.

“While the Americans insist that they will kill at will people living in the tribal areas, the Pakistan army and the government say that they can do this job on their own,” he said.

Qazi Hussain Ahmed said his party had come to the conclusion after going through the experience of the politics of alliances that a focused and radical leadership was needed to steer the country out of a directionless system.

He said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) had played a positive role in ensuring harmony among various sects.

He said the role of the alliance was not over, but it could not be kept intact because of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman’s “greed for power”.

He said the Maulana wanted to remain a part of every government.

He quoted Maulana Fazl as saying that “people do politics only to gain power and even if one cannot grab all the power, he should not shun a part of it”.

Qazi Hussain said the Jamaat would launch a train march on Oct 7 from Peshawar to Karachi as part of mobilisation for its three-day congregation, set to open on Oct 23.
