HYDERABAD, Sept 30: Dist-rict Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that 190 Urdu and Sindhi medium government schools in the district had been converted to English medium institutions, which was an achievement of the district government.

He was speaking at a ceremony organised at his secretariat to distribute books, stationary items and schools bags. The material was handed over to heads of English medium schools to be distributed among schoolchildren.

He said that the number of English medium schools would be increased to 210 very soon.

The nazim said that around 10,500 children had so far been enrolled in schools.

He said that the poor could not afford to pay exorbitant fees of private English medium schools. In view of this situation, he added, the district government had decided to convert Urdu and Sindhi medium schools into English medium schools.

He said that competent teachers would be deployed at these schools to run the affairs and to impart quality education under strict supervision. Mr Jamil said that the district government was looking after 1,080 schools and spending 65 per cent of its total budget on the education sector.

He urged the teachers to make all-out efforts for the uplift of educational standards.

The district nazim informed the audience that suggestions for the improvement of the education sector could be recorded at call centre 1334 or forwarded to the DCO, EDO (education) and other relevant officials of the education department.

He said that the English medium school should be run as model schools and the project could be made successful only through teamwork.
