MANCHESTER, Oct 13: With straight games victory over his Egyptian rival, Shahid Zaman became the fourth Pakistani to reach the first round of the main draw of the World Open squash championship at the National Squash Centre.

26-year-old Shahid worked out an efficient 41-minute 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 win over Amr Mansi and joined Mansoor Zaman, Aamir Atlas Khan and Farhan Mahboob in the main draw.

Shahid will now take on eighth seed Nick Matthew of England.

Pakistan’s another player Khawaja Adil Maqbool lost 6-11, 6-11, 6-11 to David Phillips of Canada.

In the main draw, Farhan Mahboob will face Julien Balbo of France, Mansoor plays John White of Scotland while Aamir Atlas meets Mathieu Castagnet of France.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s world junior champion Mohamed El Shorbagy will make his debut in the senior championship after beating Englishman Joe Lee 11-4, 11-8, 11-5.—APP
