HYDERABAD, Oct 17: DCO Ali Ahmed has said that district administration is committed to providing wheat flour to the common man at official rates.

He said that the government had increased wheat quota to flour mills and chakkis as such no excuse regarding flour shortage would be accepted.

He was speaking at a meeting with the food minister’s Food Vigilance Team, officers from food department and representatives of Chakki Flour Association Hyderabad at his office.

The DCO informed the meeting that the food department was providing 23,393 bags of 100kg each to eight flour mills and 17,393 bags of the same weight to 179 chakkis per week as such there should be no shortage of flour in the district.

It was decided in the meeting that DDO revenue city Hyderabad along with the officials of the food department, representatives of Chakki Flour Association, visiting team and police force would conduct raids on chakkis and flour mills and monitor flour supply to the public on the approved rates.

The meeting was informed that flour mills were allowed to produce 85 per cent flour from 100kg wheat.

The DCO said that the district administration would also fix prices of Naan, Sooji and Meda on Oct 17 and would not allow anybody to fleece people.

Later, speaking at another meeting on preservation of historical buildings and sites and cultural heritage of Hyderabad district and publication of a book on Hyderabad district, the DCO said that Hyderabad was rich in cultural, historical sites and buildings and it was our prime duty to preserve those sites.

It was decided in the meeting that District Historical Society would be established and archives department would prepare a plan for the preservation/renovation of historical buildings/sites while director building control authority HDA would implement the project and the tourism department would work to boost tourism in the district.

The meeting decided to recommend to government of Sindh and the culture department to shift the scheme of music academy from Karachi to Hyderabad, which had not been implemented due to non-availability of plot in Karachi as yet. It may be recalled that the scheme had already been approved for district Hyderabad.
