ISLAMABAD, Oct 17: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani discussed security issues with parliamentarians from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas on Friday.

According to sources, the prime minister is trying to develop consensus among coalition partners on a resolution which may be moved in the ongoing joint session of both houses of parliament.

The lawmakers from Fata have been criticising the government’s policy on the ‘war on terror’. During the in-camera debate in parliament they have called for a change in the security policy.

The prime minister has also held meetings with the PPP parliamentary group, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Maulana Fazlur Rahman and parliamentarians belonging to the Awami National Party.

A meeting with legislators of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement is also expected.

Speaking at a dinner hosted by him in honour of the Fata legislators, the prime minister stressed the need for national consensus on the security strategy.

He said the government depended on the opposition to hold it accountable and check its faults. He asserted that the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-N had decided to respect each other’s mandate in accordance with the Charter of Democracy.

The prime minister said the president had accepted the resignation of PML-N ministers on his advice because it was necessary for the appointment of a nominee of that party as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.
