HYDERABAD, Oct 25: The Hirabad area remained in grip of violence for several hours on Saturday after a scuffle between a Pakistan People’s Party activist and the owners of a rent-a-car showroom.

PPP activist Aurangzeb Jamali, who was riding a motorcycle, was hit by a vehicle near Syed rent-a-car showroom on Bhurgari Road. Subsequently he hit one of the cars of the showroom. Police and witnesses said that he was taken in the showroom where he was roughed up.

He called local PPP leader Fayaz Shah over his cellphone who reached there along with some of his supporters. He got Jamali released following an altercation. But they were chased.

The showroom owners reportedly resorted to firing in the air and damaged Fayyaz Shah’s car and another vehicle.

According to Fayaz Shah, one of his supporters, Zawar Lashari, had been hit by a bullet but he was out of danger.

Later, supporters of the showroom owners lit bonfire at a number of places to lodge their protest. The police extinguished fire and brought situation under control.

The police arrested one of the showroom owners, Kamran Shah, and an unidentified man. A case has been lodged on the complaint of Jamali against Kamran Shah, Imran Shah, Rehman Shah and one of their unidentified friends.

The showroom owners could not be contacted as their business remained closed.
