LAHORE, Oct 28: Indian authorities handed over five Pakistani mentally-challenged prisoners to Pakistan Rangers at Wagha on Tuesday.

The rangers referred the freed men to Edhi Foundation officials till the identification of their families, Muhammad Jan, an employee of Gulberg Edhi Homes, told Dawn.

He said the Rangers did not tell him about the nature of offence of the people for which they had been jailed by the Indian authorities.

Those handed over to Edhi officials were identified as Noor Muhammad, 46, of Basti Jeevan Shah district Ghotki; Mirza, 38, of Nawab Shah; Aslam Baig, 45, of Gujrat; Miraj Din, 45, of Lahore, and Muhammad Riaz, 44, of Wazirabad.

When Dawn contacted G-Branch of Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) headquarters, which deals with inadvertent boarder crossers, to confirm the handing over of prisoners, Hawaldar Zulfikar Ali said he had no information about the landing of the prisoners.
