PML-Q removes chief of women’s wing

ISLAMABAD, Nov 2: Former federal minister Sumera Malik has been removed from the post of the chief of the women’s wing of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q.

Ms Malik was one of the member of the party’s forward bloc who voted for Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election.

She had attended a dinner at the presidency and again met President Zardari on Saturday.

PML-Q MNA Nosheen Saeed had accused Ms Malik of threatening her for not accompanying the forward bloc legislators to the presidency.

According to a press release, PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain removed Ms Malik from the party post after an investigation.

“League office-bearers, MPs and workers, among them women, had lodged numerous complaints of violation of party policies and demanded her ouster,” it said.

PML-Q information secretary Senator Tariq Azeem said that under the party constitution, its president had the power to expel any member or office-bearer for misconduct or violating its policy and to appoint anyone in her place.

Replying to a question, he said the issue of moving references against the MPs who had violated party line would be taken up on a case-to-case basis.
