LAHORE, Nov 14: The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) allocated 2010 World Championship Qualification Tournament’s first round to Pakistan, which will be held from Jan 1 next year.

According to Secretary, Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Major (retd) Mohammad Afzal, the three-day event would feature Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Macau. Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad, is the selected venue.

He said that the championship will be played on a single-league basis and two teams will qualify for the next round.

Meanwhile, training camp kicked off at the Islamabad’s Liaquat Gymnasium on Friday where some 22 spikers are taking part in two sessions daily under the supervision of Iranian head coach Ali Reza Moameri with assistance from Mohammad Akram and Jamil Ahmed.

The spikers:

Libro: Shah Rukh (Wapda), Hassan Abbas (Army), Waleed Khan (Wapda).

Setters: Pir Bakhsh Yasin (Army), Asif Nadeem (Navy), Zahid Bashir (Army), Abdullah Khan (NWFP).

Quick attacker/middle blocker: Mohib Rasool (Police), Aimal Khan (NWFP), Shah Faisal (Army), Babar Bhutta (Wapda), Shuja Abbas (Navy), Imdad Hussain (Army), Hafiz Munir Khan (Punjab).

High spiker: Naseer Ahmed (Police), Zaheer Khan (Wapda), Zaheer Abbas (Army), Ali Abbas (Wapda), Farooq Khan (Wapda), Nasir Khan (NWFP), Mohammad Ismail Khan (PAF) and Mohammad Naveed (Army).
