HYDERABAD, Nov 17: The Department of Zoology of the University of Sindh in collaboration with High-tech Central Resources Laboratory organised a walk at the Allama I.I.Kazi campus Jamshoro on Monday to create awareness against HIV/Aids.

Vice Chancellor Sindh University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui led the walk and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Raffia Ahmed Shaikh, Dr M.Y. Khuhawar, deans of the faculties, heads of various teaching institutes and departments, Registrar Mohammad Saleh Rajar and a large number of students participated.

Dr Naseem Bughio said that the HIV/Aids were first witnessed in 1981 in Central Africa. She said that the disease had killed 20 million people worldwide and added that more than 45 million people were currently living with HIV including 2.5 million children.

It was transmitted due to blood transmission, shaving, injections and the use of drugs. Dr Naseem also highlighted preventive measures for saving people from getting infected with HIV/Aids.

Mr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui underlined the need for creating awareness in the society about various diseases.

Vice Chancellor, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro, Dr Noushad Ahmed Shaikh stressed on taking preventive measures.
