HYDERABAD, Nov 20: The local bodies system and restoration of district to its original shape are under active consideration of the government, said Sindh Minister for Zakat and Ushr Sajid Jokhio.

Talking to reporters after distributing cheques of Zakat funds among 67 deserving students in Matiari on Wednesday, he said that Rs840 million was allocated for mustahiqeen, organising collective marriages and providing funds to jobless youths for setting up small businesses.He said that the privatisation of Qadirpur gas field was in the best interest of Sindh.

The minister advised chairmen Zakat committees to distribute the money among deserving people and warned of sending behind bars, the corrupt ones.

MPA Pir Ameer Ali Shah Hashmi said that the PPP government had decided to provide jobs to 55,000 jobless youths in the province.

DCO Matiari Mr Baqaullah Unnar and District Chairman Zakat Committee, Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah also spoke on the occasion.

DISTRICT NAZIM: Abolition of local bodies system would multiply problems of people and jeopardise the ongoing development schemes, warned District Nazim Matiari, Mohammad Ali Shah Jamote.

He was talking to journalists after inaugurating the 30-room district complex constructed at a cost of Rs37 million. He said that he would not boast of converting Matiari district into a model district but added that the steps taken for the betterment of education and health sectors, provision of Sui gas and electricity, laying a network of roads and other mega projects had made it one.

He said that the construction of taluka hospital building, district complex, rest house, school buildings and water supply schemes at a cost of Rs9 million were certainly revolutionary steps.

Answering a question about the proposed exclusion of Nasarpur Union Council from Matiari district and its inclusion in Tando Allahyar district, the district nazim said that the opinion of people of Nasarpur should be taken before implementing the proposal.

He did not agree with a questioner that the leaders of ruling party were creating hurdles in the way of district government. He said such major projects could not be completed without the cooperation of ruling party.

He said he had requested the government to appoint new teachers.
