KARACHI, Nov 23: A 35-year-old man, who was kidnapped for Rs1.5 million ransom two days ago, was found dead in Bihar Colony on Sunday after his father failed to make the full payment.

Chakiwara police said that Faisal Hussain, son of Mohammed Hussain, was kidnapped from a place near his Agra Taj residence on Friday. The kidnappers demanded Rs1.5 million for the release of the victim, an owner of a provisions store at Khajoor Bazaar, the police said.

They said the victim’s father did not report the matter to police instead he kept on negotiating with the kidnappers. The following night the victim’s father paid Rs100,000 to the kidnappers as part payment of the full ransom.

However, police found the man dead in Bihar Colony on Sunday. They shifted the body to the Civil Hospital Karachi. Sources at the medico-legal section said that the body bore torture marks and it seemed the victim was strangled.

Shoot-out

A suspected bandit was killed and another was injured in a shoot-out with police on Nishtar Road in the small hours of Sunday.

Soldier Bazaar police said that two dacoits on a stolen motorcycle went on a looting spree near Lakhpati Hall at around 2am.

They said that the suspects opened fire on a police team patrolling the area as they reached the spot. The police party returned the fire. The two suspect were shot and wounded, one of them fatally.

The police said that the wounded suspects were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where one of them, Fahad, son of Naeem, died while being operated upon.

The injured was identified as Mohammed Ali, son of Akbar Ali.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the injured suspect was in a stable condition.

The police said that two pistols and the suspects’ motorcycle were seized from the spot.

They said that the motorcycle (KDC-2369) was stolen on September 17 within the limits of Sharea Fasial police.

A case (FIR 333/2008) against the suspects was registered on behalf of the state.
