NEW DELHI, Dec 3: Michael Fennell, the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, said in a statement issued on Wednesday that there had been no discussion of a possible switch of the 2010 Commonwealth Games to a city outside of India.
“The senseless and brutal attacks by terrorists in Mumbai have left us all in a state of shock and our immediate concern is for our friends and their families in India,” Fennell said.
He added: “At no stage has there been discussion about us moving the Games from Delhi, and nor has any other city been approached to be on stand-by as has been intimated in some recent media reports.”
Fennell said security preparations for the Games were continuing as normal but acknowledged tougher measures may be required.
The Games are due to be held in Delhi from Oct 3 to 14, 2010.—AFP
