Anti-encroachment squad kills trader

GUJRANWALA, Dec 4: An anti-encroachment squad allegedly clubbed a trader, of Kamoki, to death during an operation clean-up on offering resistance on Thursday. Traders and shopkeepers placed the body of the trader on GT Road and threw the traffic out of gear.

The squad removing encroachments in the town scuffled with trader Muhammad Shafiq when he offered resistance. The squad beat him with a club and resultantly he died. The death provoked protests by traders who placed the body in the middle of GT Road and blocked the road. They demanded an immediate arrest of the accused. District and motorway police convinced the protestors to end the blockade. The squad claimed Shafiq died of a heart attack.

CHRISTMAS SALARY: Sanitary workers of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) threatened with strike it their salaries were not paid to them before Christmas.

WASA Ittehad Union President Naseeruddin Humayun Malik alleged that agency administration always failed to disburse the salaries of sanitary workers before Christmas. He demanded the account office prepare the salary bills of sanitary workers in time so that they get their salary before Christmas. The sanitary workers said that they would not come for work if their salaries were not paid to them before Dec 25.
