Explosion destroys internet café

Published December 5, 2008

QUETTA, Dec 4: A powerful bomb exploded in an internet café here on Thursday night. Police said the home-made bomb had been placed under a table in the café situated in the basement of a building on Jinnah road.

The blast also damaged nearby shops, but no casualty was reported.

It may be mentioned that the Jamaat Toheed Wal Jihad Balochistan, an extremist religious organisation, had circulated pamphlets in the area a couple of days ago, threatening to target internet cafes and shops dealing in CDs. It also issued threats to women who did not observe ‘proper purdah’. Police found a pamphlet at the site of the blast. However, no organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack.—Staff Correspondent
