PESHAWAR, Dec 12: Militants fired five rockets in the early hours of Friday on a terminal on the Ring Road used by lorries carrying supplies for Nato forces in Afghanistan.

The rockets landed inside the Venus Supreme Food terminal but did not hit any container, police said.

Security personnel were deployed on the Ring Road on Friday evening.

An official said it had become difficult for police to protect Nato supplies, adding that the situation in the city required regular patrolling of sensitive areas.

He said Peshawar was being attacked by militants from Michini, Shabqadar, Matni, Badbher and Khyber Agency and police lacked resources to counter them.

He said security personnel would be deployed near the Bara Road to stop suspected vehicles from entering the provincial capital from Bara and near a petrol pump close to Landi Akhund village.

Peshawar’s SSP Operations Kashif Alam said the army, Frontier Constabulary and police would act jointly in the event of an attack on the supplies.

He said a long-term policy to handle the problem was being prepared by the home department which was in touch with the federal government in this regard.
