KARACHI, Dec 13: A young man is being grilled by the police investigating the murder of a 38-year-old woman and her three children in their North Karachi house.

Seeman, wife of Jameel, and her children – Ramsha, 5, Osama, 6, and Saima, 8 – were found slaughtered in Sector 5 A-4 on Friday evening.

An investigator told Dawn that the family had let the upper portion of their house to 26-year-old Shahzad and his wife. He said that the couple had been living there on rent for the past few months. But the suspect’s estranged wife left him some one and a half months ago. Since then, the couple had not been living there though they kept their things there.

He said that the key to the locked portion of the house was with Jameel who used to open the portion for Shahzad’s wife whenever she

came there to collect her belongings. In fact Jameel had relations with the suspect’s in-laws who lived in Shah Faisal Colony, the investigator added.

“The suspect, who is an embroidery worker, is still being grilled and the police have got no clue so far,” he added.

The investigator said that the police had also collected fingerprints from the crime site. “But the results showed that the fingerprints were of the slaughtered children,” he added.

He said that an initial report of the deceased mother’s medical examination showed that she was not criminally assaulted. “Nor was there any sign of robbery in the house as nothing was found missing,” he added.
