KARACHI, Dec 17: An assistant sub-inspector was arrested and booked for possessing an illegal weapon, Keamari Town officials said on Wednesday.

They said the ASI deputed at Docks police station arrested Mohammad Yousaf, 65, to implicate him in an illegal arms case apparently in an attempt to occupy his house a couple of days ago. The officer claimed that he had recovered an unlicensed TT pistol from the suspect’s possession. However, it later came out that the ‘recovered’ pistol did not belong to Mr Yousaf.

SP Keamari Town Saqib Ismail said: “During initial interrogation we have reached the conclusion that the elderly man had nothing to do with the recovered pistol and in fact it was ASI Abdaal, who set the man up to achieve his objectives.”

An investigation team later found the three-room house of Mr Yousaf in Machhar Colony which the ASI reportedly attempted to occupy by implicating its owner in the case.

Docks police registered a case (FIR 213/2008) against ASI Abdaal for possessing illegal arms under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance before putting him in lock-up.
