KARACHI: Drug addict shot dead

KARACHI, Dec 20: Two people were killed on Saturday in acts of violence in separate parts of the city, police and witnesses said.

They said that a 28-year-old man was found shot dead at Maulvi Mohammed Sadiq Park near G. Allana Road.

The Baghdadi police said that the victim, Mohammed Adil, son of Saeed Ullah, was a vagabond drug addict and his family had disowned him nine months ago.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim was shot to the head from a point-blank range as the bullet pierced the skull.

The police said that the victim was a resident of Khadda Market and had been hooked to heroin for the past several years. He used to sleep in the park where he was found shot dead, they added.

The police registered a case (FIR 380/2008) against unidentified culprits under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s father. They said the murder seemed to be motivated by a personal enmity.

Body found

The body of a 30-year-old man was found near his residence in Block 11 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the victim was identified as Jahan Badshah, son of Ayaz Shah, resident of flat No B-15, Nauman Terrace.

Hospital sources said that the victim had received fatal wounds to the head with a heavy object, most probably a stone or a brick.

The police registered a case (FIR 663/2008) against unidentified culprits under Section 302 of the PPC on the complaint of the victim’s brother-in-law, Syed Tariq Shah.

The complainant reported to the police that the younger brother of his wife lived with him and he had been missing since Friday afternoon.

24 vehicles, 26 cell-phones taken away

As many as 24 vehicles – nine automobiles and 15 motorbikes – and 26 cellular phones were taken away by the evening on Saturday in different parts of the city.

Officials at the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee said that one car was snatched at gunpoint within the police precincts of Gulistan-i-Jauhar while eight others were stolen within the jurisdictions of Boat Basin, Azizabad, Gulberg, Jauharabad, Ferozabad, Gulbahar, Nazimabad and Model Colony police stations.

They said that three motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint in the police limits of Sachal, Awami Colony and Sharea Faisal. Twelve other motorbikes were stolen in the police jurisdictions of Frere, Surjani Town, Yousuf Plaza, PIB Colony, Ferozabad, Awami Colony, Nazimabad, Saudabad, Orangi Town, Saddar and Artillery Maidan.

Besides, the officials said, 11 cellular phones were snatched at gunpoint and 15 others were stolen in parts of the city.

They said that 11 cars, 18 motorcycles and 56 cellular phones were taken in away across the city on Friday.
