HYDERABAD, Dec 22: A general council of the Awami Tehrik meeting on Sunday stressed on improving bilateral ties with India to avoid any confrontation.
The meeting held at the Palijo House Qasimabad, underlined the need of holding immediate negotiations between the two countries for resolving all contentious issues.
It was presided over by Abdul Qadir Ranto and attended among others by Rasool Bux Palijo, Syed Alam Shah, Hakeem Halepoto and Ayaz Latif Palijo.
Expressing grief and sorrow over the Mumbai carnage, the meeting contended that no country or a group had the right to kill people.
The meeting called upon the responsible countries to refrain from war mongering for avoiding a situation similar to Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. It also condemned the violence in Karachi and urged the government to implement proposals put forward at the all parties’ conference.
It took exception to the demolition of ancient Sindhi villages in Karachi and demanded that as per the government promise, these should be regularised.
It regretted the indifferent attitude of the government towards rain-affected people and demanded compensation to them along with exempting growers from the payment of land revenue and water charges plus providing them with advanced agricultural loans for rehabilitation.
It decided to hold a national conference in Karachi on March 22 to discuss burning issues confronting the nation and Sindh and appointed different committees to finalise the programme.
It demanded the government to take measures for eliminating terrorists and providing relief to people against kidnappers, extortionists and narcotics dealers. It demanded that the Gunda elements should be rusticated from all educational institutions.
KIDNAP VICTIM: The EDO Health, Tando Allah Yar, Dr Abdul Jalil Bachani would be recovered soon as police have identified his kidnappers, said DIG Hyderabad Sanaullah Abbasi.
Talking to journalist in Matiari on Monday, the DIG said that law and order situation in Hyderabad region was under control with the nabbing of many criminals. An action plan had been put in place to maintain law and order in Hyderabad region during Moharram, he said.
